Alexa orders Chipotle, Real Feels About Thanksgiving, Free Subway Delivery [11/17/2019 – 11/24/2019]
Two recent Saturday Night Live skits are causing a stir in the food community. The skits feature two big name brands (Sara Lee and Heinz) in some not-safe-for-work (NSFW) situations, that are equally cringey and funny. The most recent skit, which starred Will Ferrell as an embarrassed father, featured a very noisy ketchup squeeze bottle. The solution – a bottle that makes equally inappropriate sounds. Watch the first video (with earbuds) starring Harry Styles here.
“Alexa, order Chipotle…” Yes, it’s real and it is happening. By linking your Chipotle account to the Alexa app, you will soon be able to ask the virtual assistant to reorder your favorite Chipotle creation, and even have the restaurant deliver it (where available). The only caveat is Alexa cannot create brand new orders, the AI can only order an existing favorite or a previous order. This is just another way the restaurant chain is reaching out to customers. Last year, Chipotle Venmo’d customers $250,000 to promote their new loyalty program.
The grocery delivery service Instacart has written a piece exposing the truth about how Americans really feel about Thanksgiving dinner. Traditional Thanksgiving food was ranked as some of the least liked (we are talking green bean casserole, canned cranberry and even turkey) but most frequently purchased this time of year. 68% of people surveyed said they would rather eat other things, but serve the same dishes because of tradition. Millennials are guilty of making several different dinners, as they tend to cater more to picky eaters, where baby boomers said they made the same dishes every year.
Subway is offering free delivery on all orders from November 24th to the 30th with the code GETSUBWAY19. This promotion is said to increase family time together during the holidays. Subway does not offer delivery, but does partner with third party delivery services like UberEats, Grubhub and Postmates. This is perfect for anyone who may be a little tired of Thanksgiving leftovers, or for all the retail workers on Black Friday.
