  • A new study published in the journal Science Immunology found that the keto diet may help in preventing the flu. Mice that were fed a keto diet (high in fat, low in carbs) and were exposed to influenza A responded better and were able to naturally combat the virus compared to mice that were fed traditional mouse food, which is made up of mostly carbohydrates. This has led researchers to suggest that there may be more to the diet than just weight loss.

  • A seafood chain in London has come up with an interesting way to reduce food waste. Wright Brothers sells a number of oyster dishes each year, with even more oyster shells ending up in local landfills, until now. For the last 10 years, the chain has been working with Irish oyster farmers and London’s The Ginstitute to create its very own gin made from oyster shells. Half Shell Gin is said to have hints of traditional gin flavors like juniper but is balanced with nontraditional flavors like kelp. If you are interested in sampling it, you’ll have to travel to one of the four Wright Brothers locations in London.
