Tasmania’s Largest Truffle, Popeyes Plans To Expand, The Race To Save Banana’s [5/25/2020-5/31/2020]

  • A dog from Tasmania finds a two-pound truffle worth around $1,000. The trainee pup named “Poppy” started digging in the soft soil around Tim Terry’s farm, the same farm the first black truffle from Tasmania was found 20 years prior. That’s a very good doggo, indeed!

  • A virtual cheese party is planned for June 4th, in honor of National Cheese Day, by The Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. The event planners have promised door prizes and lots of fun information. You can sign up for the meeting here. You know we’ll be there if there's cheese!

  • Quest Love hosted a virtual potluck to promote togetherness, and we love it! The Root’s drummer, and cookbook author will be joined by celebrities like Olivia Wilde, Tiffany Haddish, Eva Longoria, and George Lopez. This is all to raise money for Feeding America and No Kid Hungry.

  • Dole has partnered with Boragen Inc., a boron (micronutrient for plants)-based discovery platform, to help fight Black Sigatoka, one of the most prevalent and damaging fungus affecting bananas. The condition also called black banana leaf disease, can decimate an entire banana plantation in a matter of weeks if left untreated. Bananas are a staple food in much of the world, and treatment for this fungus is necessary to keep world food supplies stable. 

  • Popeyes Chicken announced Saturday that the company would be releasing a new, more modern logo as the chicken chain plans to expand globally. Popeye’s has not felt the financial pinch like many other fast-food restaurants during the global pandemic; in fact, they have been more profitable than ever. 1,500 new stores are planned for future expansions, especially in China.
