Free Beer for Rescuing Dogs, Coronavirus-Themed Foods, Happy Hour Goes Virtual [3/23/2020 – 3/29/2020]
McDonald’s all over the world are doing their part to promote the importance of social distancing. A campaign was launched last week in several countries showing the iconic Golden Arches separating, which hopes to emphasize our social distancing during this time. McDonald’s says it’s committed to safely serving customers and has implemented stringent safety measures in all of its restaurants. A statement released by McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlanger said: “Our customers, employees, and communities are counting on us now more than ever to provide them meaningful support, delicious food, and good-paying jobs.” Way to go McDonald’s!
Busch and Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) are asking you to consider adopting a new companion during this time. Busch has pledged to give a three-month supply of beer to anyone adopting or fostering a dog between now and April 22nd. While we are huge advocates for rescues, we hope anyone considering this fully understands the responsibility attached to owning/fostering a pet and the commitment it entails.
A grocery store in Pennsylvania threw out over $35,000 worth of food after a woman coughed on several products throughout the store. This was all apparently part of a very sick prank. The woman, who has not been named, is currently being treated at a mental health facility, will likely be charged after her treatment is complete. The Department of Justice said on Wednesday that people who intentionally spread the virus could be charged with terrorism.
Coronavirus-themed foods are popping up all over social media to make light of the global pandemic. CNN shares a few that include toilet paper cakes from bakers in Germany, and Dr. Fauci doughnut in New York. You can check them out here.
The virtual happy hour is helping many people during this time of social distancing. As more areas institute statewide shelter in place policies, the fear, and anxiety of being antisocial have hit people hard. But people are reporting that connecting with friends through platforms like Zoom or Houseparty has helped.
