No Shortage of Food in US, Disney World’s Multi-Thousand Lb Food Donation, Sour Cream and Chocolate Chips Anyone? [3/9/2020 – 3/15/2020]
As pictures of empty grocery store shelves continue to flood social media, the federal government says there isn't food storage and not to panic. President Trump has asked the country to refrain from buying any more than they need for their household. Impulsive buying and hoarding of items put a massive strain on grocers and distributors and leaves many people without necessary supplies.
Multiple states order that all bars, restaurants, and nightclubs close to quell the potential spread of the coronavirus. This leaves many people in the service industry jobless. Many restaurants will still offer carryout services and even delivery for the time being. Multiple fast-food chains are also offering free delivery.
Amazon is looking to hire over 100,000 workers to help fulfill grocery orders. Other grocery stores such as Kroger, Ralphs, and Hy-Vee are also seeking new employees to keep up with the constant restocking demand.
Disney World in Orlando, Florida, has donated thousands of pounds of food to a central Florida food bank after fears of coronavirus spreading prompt parks and hotels to close. Second Harvest Food Bank has been instrumental in helping Floridians in need over the last few decades, and Disney has partnered with them in the past. Disney's Harvest program, which was established in 1982, has collected and distributed more than 823,000 pounds of prepared, unserved food annually since its inception. Disneyland in Anaheim California is reported to have done the same thing, donating their access to Second Harvest of Orange County.
A survey conducted by the makers of SPAM revealed that Americans like weird food combinations. 2,000 Americans were asked to give examples of their favorite unique blends, as well as, when they get cravings for these foods. Meatballs and mayo, alligator and fries, and sour cream and onion chips with chocolate were among some of the strangest responses.
