History of Avocado Toast
The origins of avocado toast can take you all over the globe and back hundreds of years. Bill Granger from Sydney Australia claims that he was the first to invent and serve it at his cafe Bills, in 1993. Bill’s was modeled after restaurants in the more eclectic Melbourne food scene. New York Chef, Chloe Osborne, claimed that she had the toast in Melbourne during the 70’s. In Los Angeles, Best Drugs Stores Inc. served an open-faced sandwich with sliced avocado in 1937, and even before that the San Francisco Chronicle suggested that one should “mash the flesh and spread on toast.”
